John R. Mulder

March 27, 1929 — February 24, 2021

John R. Mulder (Dick)

Dick Mulder of Denver, Colorado, passed away February 24, 2021, with family at his side.

Dick's Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, June 12 at 2pm.

Dick was a devoted Christian and loved his church family. He was a philatelist, a fisherman, and an avid Denver Bronco fan. He loved his children, grandchildren and loved supporting them at their sporting events and activities.

Dick was born to John "Jake" and Dorothy Mulder on March 27, 1929 in Reinbeck, Iowa. His dad was a barber, and his mom was a teacher. Dick graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1947. He graduated from Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri with a degree in Mathematics in 1951. He met Ruby Morrill while at Tarkio and continued a friendship after Dick was drafted for the army.

Dick was stationed at Ft. Detrick, Maryland where he was a statistical research assistant. After the army, he moved to Denver, where he married Ruby in 1956. Dick worked as a cartographer for the US Geological Survey until he retired in 1988. They had four children and moved around with his job to various states like Montana, Virginia, Wyoming, and Texas. Dick's children have many fond memories of the family living in some interesting places like the Grand Tetons. He helped make the topographic maps that we have today. Dick and Ruby were life-long members of South Fellowship where they volunteered many hours and in many different capacities.

Dick and Ruby enjoyed travelling and visiting their 14 grandchildren in Colorado, Texas, Michigan, and Kansas until Ruby's death in 2002.

In August of 2005, Dick married Mary "Jeanne" Danknich. Dick and Jeanne enjoyed traveling on bus trips, a trip to Europe and visiting family. Dick and Jeanne also enjoyed being a part of the church family at South Fellowship.

The year 2020 was a difficult year for Dick, but thankfully, through technology, family was able to keep in touch by phone, Facetime and Zoom.

Dick is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby; his parents, Jake and Dorothy Mulder; and his two sisters, Beverly Mulder and Marion Heckroth.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, of Thornton, CO.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren from his marriage to Ruby.
