John Larry Sellers

July 19, 1941 — October 7, 2018

John Larry Sellers, 77, of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on October 7, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Tuesday, October 16 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora. A military committal service and burial will follow afterwards at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver.

Larry was born July 19, 1941 in Coeburn, Virginia to Gladys and William Sellers. As a young man he worked at a gas station with his father, which may have sparked his enthusiasm for working on cars. He spent his entire life around cars, collecting a variety of classics.

He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force in 1958 at the age of 17, and was stationed in France, Canada and the Philippines, and on several bases in the U.S.A. While in the Air Force, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Columbia College. Throughout his military career, Larry was recognized with several letters of commendation for his exceptional service. In 1980, he was awarded the Department of the Air Force's commendation medal for meritorious service. He retired as a senior master sergeant at Lowry Air Force Base in 1980, having spent 14 years as an education and training superintendent.

He married Gerane Rundstrom in 1961 and together raised Karen Brassington (Dick), Christopher Sellers (Sue), Kelly Smith (Ted), Carol Sellers-Spaar (Steve) and John Sellers (Lara). He and his beloved longtime companion Linda Cari Sellers adopted and raised Hunter Sellers.

Following his military service, Larry created a successful 30-year real estate career and established a property management company. He was an active member of the Aurora Board of Realtors, and served on a number of board and committees. In 1994, he was voted "Realtor of the Year."

Larry loved hunting and fishing, however golf was his passion. He began playing golf in the Philippines, and later in life, often played three to four rounds per week, including many "36-hole days." He ran the men's golf club at Aurora's Spring Hill Golf Course for years, was founder of the early-morning "Dawn Patrol" golf league which continues to this day, and helped with many tournaments throughout the years. Larry had five hole-in-one shots at Spring Hill between 1998 and 2012.

Above all else, Larry valued family; he loved his family dearly, and was always there to help his loved ones when they needed it.

He is survived by a large, loving family including his sister Dana Matlock (Bob), Cari, Gerane, six children, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, along with friends and colleagues too numerous to count. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ann, and his brother Donnie.
