Joseph Carl Brannan was born on December 26, 1922 in Gillett, Arkansas to Mabel Leah Butcher and James William Brannan.
In WWII, Joe served on the USS Niagara until it was sunk. He then served on PT Boats in the Pacific and at a naval training base in New Jersey. Finding training others not to his liking, he requested and was transferred back on to PT boat 305 in the Mediterranean. PT 305 now resides in the WWII museum in New Orleans.
In 1949, Joe graduated from the Louisiana State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Joe met the love of his life, Bobbye McGuire, they married on December 14, 1951. Joe, Bobbye and their two oldest daughters moved to Black Forest, CO in 1958. A son, who died in infancy, and two more daughters soon followed. In Black Forest, Joe was a volunteer fireman, an Explorer Scout leader, active on the PTA, active in the Community Center, and drove for many Girl Scout excursions.
During his career, Joe worked for Colorado Interstate Gas, sold real estate, before becoming a Civil Service Employee. While employed for the government he worked for the U.S. Dept of Defense and then for the newly formed Department of Energy. Joe worked for NORAD during the time the Cheyenne Mountain Facility, 'the hole in the mountain', was built and most active. For three years working in Alaska, was part of the team responsible for the Com-Sat stations along the "Dew Line".
In 1979, Joe retired. He and Bobbye took up RV-ing. They retired from "the road" in 2007 and settled down in Aurora, CO. He is survived by his wife Bobbye Brannan, their four daughters - Leann Brannan Wheeler, Katherine Brannan, Elizabeth Brannan, and Ramona Brannan-Brownson, by his two cousins Tommy & David Butcher, by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren.
