Joseph Michael Dornbierer

March 8, 1955 — October 14, 2022

Joseph Michael Dornbierer, 67, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away on October 14, 2022, surrounded by family, after battling cancer.

He was born March 8, 1955, in Hoboken, NJ, to the late Louis and Jeannette Dornbierer (nee Drozdewski.) He graduated from Dunellen High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for seven years and earned the rank of Sergeant. Joseph transferred to the United States Navy and served his country for an additional 13 years, retiring with the rank of Petty Officer First Class as a Cryptologic Technician.
He continued in military intelligence as a civilian employed by Northrop Grumman until he retired.

Joseph is survived by siblings Doreen Stokes and her husband Lavaughn; Susan Hain and her husband Donald; Louis Dornbierer and wife Barbara; Roger Dornbierer and wife Margie. He is also survived by nephews and nieces Marc and Lisa Hain; Duane, Carrie, and Randy Stokes; Jordan Dornbierer; and Katherine, Alexander, and Peter Dornbierer. Joseph was predeceased by his nephews, Daniel Dornbierer and Christopher Stokes.

Joseph was a lifelong student of history, especially in the subject of World War II. He was an amateur astronomer, biologist, oil painter, and writer. A voracious reader, his library included the works of James Michener, Edward Gibbon, Malachi Martin, Tom Clancy, and MAD Magazine.

Joseph was a lover of coffee with a significant mug collection. His favorite foods included roast beef subs, pea soup, mushrooms, large steaks, and rotisserie chicken. The only pizza he ever ordered was mushrooms with extra cheese. Joseph's favorite sweets were chocolate non-nonpareils, M&Ms, Hershey Kisses, and glasses of Nestle's Quik, where he tried to make his scoops tall enough to have snow peaks.

Joseph loved Halloween and monster movies, including The Crawling Eye, Attack of the Crab Monsters, and The House on Haunted Hill. He loved spending Christmas home with family, enjoying Mitch Miller's Christmas music, and watching Alistair Sims' A Christmas Carol. His last passion was the online game Hell Let Loose as a member of the Seventh Calvary with fellow former military personnel.

Joseph's family will host a life celebration service in 2023. To send condolences or leave a special message for the family, please visit NewcomerDenver.com.
