It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joseph Filiberto Maez. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Born on March, 22, 1939, in Salida, CO, he was the son of the late Trancita Marquez. A Vietnam veteran, Joe served honorably for 20 years in the Air Force until he retired with the rank Tech Sgt. After his service, Joe made a career as a computer programmer for the US Government. He retired with over 25 years of experience.
He is survived by his wife Christina F. Calvillo of 51 blissful years, his four children; Maria Julianita Causby-Murray, Joseph Filiberto Maez Jr., Theresa Florentina Perez (George) and Alicia Angelica McConnell (Kevin); his eighteen grandchildren Jeremiah (Danean), Estrella, Michelle, Kendra (Herman), Uriah (Christine), Matthew (Tara), Janelle, Gabriel (Krystyn), Terre, Monica, Seth (Danielle), Tristin, Joseph, Marissa, Jordan, Ian, Prosper, and Xavier, ; and his three great-grandchildren Lilly, Joseph, and Emma.
Joe had a passion for learning new crafts. As a rock hound at heart, he had many skills and hobbies. Every March, he could be found at the Denver Pow-Wow. He made beautiful jewelry for the people he loved. He had great adventures in the Colorado Rockies searching for gems and minerals. He was a fisherman and hunter. Joe found beauty in everything around him and loved yard sales. He was a collector of anything that caught his eye such as trains and antiques. He worked hard at everything he did and even became a skilled auctioneer.
Each and every person Joe touched is a better person for it. He will be missed by friends and family and the strangers whom he never knew.
