Jose Arsenio Lovato, Jr. 86 of Thornton, Colorado died Monday July 12, 2021. He was born to the late Jose and Lucy Lovato, October 20, 1934, in Sopris, Colorado. He married Joyce (Campbell) in 1964, and they lived together in Denver for most of their married lives until relocating to Thornton, Colorado.
Jose was known by many names, Joseph, Joe, JR, Junior, Dad, Grandpa and Papa.
Joseph went into the Navy at the age of 16 with a slight change to his birth certificate to enlist and was in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Dortch D.D. 670 and the U.S.S. Cascade (AD-16). He was honorably discharged with the following decorations: Korean Service Medal (1 Star); Navy Occupation Medal (Europe); United Nations Service Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Joyce (Campbell) Lovato and three children, Darlene Lovato Harland, Karen Roderiques, and Mark Lovato and was preceded in death by one son, Carlos Lovato. He is survived by two daughter in-laws Stacie Lovato and Silke Lovato. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Harley Lovato, Natasha Lovato, Joseph Lovato, Tyler Lovato, Cameron Lovato, Robert Pina, Aaron Roderiques and Rahisha Rosa. He was also a great-grandfather to Melody, Robert Jr., Anthony, Kiyana, Rayana, Cameron, Aaron and Trendon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose "Shine" and Lucy "Shorty" Lovato, sisters Marilyn Montoya and Gladys Martinez and brothers, Albert Lovato, and Harold Lovato.
