Juan Miguel Jimenez

May 20, 1957 — June 27, 2019

Juan Miguel Jimenez was born on May 20, 1957 in La Oroya, Peru. He moved to Lima at age 5 and graduated from Colegio Militar Leoncio Prado in the 28th promotion where he made many life time friends. He was able to spend time with them during their Sapphire Anniversary celebration last September. He also connected with many of his childhood friends during that trip.

Juan spent wonderful times traveling through Europe, enjoying different cultures. He came to Los Angeles in 1982 and worked for an international travel company. He met Connie, his wife of 34 years, at the Spain Gala here in Denver. They were married in 1985 and have two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Nicole, who reside in the Denver area. The family enjoyed many wonderful trips to Peru and Costa Rica, among others.

Juan graduated from Metro State College with his educational degree and then went on to get Master's degrees from the University of Phoenix and UC Boulder. He was the first Spanish speaking cultural liaison for the Cherry Creek School District. He then became a Spanish teacher at Prairie Middle School for 18 years. He sponsored the soccer class for many years at Prairie and coached the Overland freshmen team. Juan loved teaching and coaching and his students and players returned that love.

Soccer was always Juan's life - starting with Jessica's club team when she was 5 years old through her middle school years. Nicole played for one season with her dad. Juan went on to coach girls and boys at all levels - competitive and recreational. He supported his Alianza Lima team through out the years, along with the National Team of Peru.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Juan is survived by his mother, Marina and sister, Consuelo who reside in Denver. In Lima, live his brother, Gustavo and sister, Maria (Laly), Juan was proceeded in death by his father, Gustavo and brother Jose (Lucho,)

A memorial mass will be held at Iglesia Santa Rosa de Lima, Lince in Lima on July 27 at noon. In accordance with his wishes, Juan's ashes will be scattered in the ocean in front of his beloved military high school.

A Denver memorial service will be held in the fall to honor Juan. Information to follow at a later date.

His family will miss him greatly. He was a wonderful husband, loving father, and honorable son and brother.

On June 27th, Juan passed unexpectedly but peacefully at home with his beloved family surrounding him. As Diane, our wonderful Denver Hospice Chaplain said in her prayer, Juan has a new set of lungs and is running down the soccer field in heaven!
