Judy married Gary Garretson on July 26th, 1964. Together, they had three daughters. Over the years, their family moved around Colorado for work - from Sterling to Craig to Greeley, onto Lamar, Alamosa and finally, the Denver area.

Judy's passions included genealogy and tracing her family's German roots as they traveled from Russia to the United States. She and Gary enjoyed traveling the western United States, discovering and meeting extended family members. As a child, Judy learned to play the accordion by ear. She gave lessons to others and competed in music contests around Northeastern Colorado. She was a lifelong Lutheran and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, and sewing.
