Judy Kanzler Garretson was born in Sterling, Colorado on February 1st, 1944 to parents Pete and Elsie Kanzler. She passed away in her Parker home surrounded by family on February 4th, 2021. Her body was cremated and there will be a private memorial service for her family only.
Judy grew up on her family's farm, located among extended family farms throughout the Leroy area, southeast of Sterling, Colorado. She attended elementary school at the Fife school, a one-room schoolhouse with only ten other students. She attended high school and North East Junior College in Sterling, Colorado
Judy married Gary Garretson on July 26th, 1964. Together, they had three daughters. Over the years, their family moved around Colorado for work - from Sterling to Craig to Greeley, onto Lamar, Alamosa and finally, the Denver area.
Judy's passions included genealogy and tracing her family's German roots as they traveled from Russia to the United States. She and Gary enjoyed traveling the western United States, discovering and meeting extended family members. As a child, Judy learned to play the accordion by ear. She gave lessons to others and competed in music contests around Northeastern Colorado. She was a lifelong Lutheran and enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, and sewing.
Judy is survived by her husband, one sister, three daughters, one son-in-law, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, grandson Chad Benjamin Fransen, and son-in-law, Gilbert John Fransen.
