June Louise Goos

June 24, 1926 — May 6, 2019

June Louise Goos, nee Fitzgerald, 92, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019.

June was born on June 24, 1926 in the coal mining town of Crummies Creek, Kentucky, to Herbert and Leona Fitzgerald. She was a child of the depression whose life was shaped by the Second World War; many of her family and friends were lost in the conflict. During the war, June worked in a munitions factory in Louisville to support the nation's military effort. Because her father developed Black Lung disease, the family moved to Colorado in the late 1940s. She met her future husband, William (Bill) Goos while they both worked at the Denver Federal Center, and they married in February of 1950.

June and Bill were one of the founding families of Burns United Methodist Church in Aurora, Colorado, and she was also an active member of the Apache Wells Community Church in Mesa Arizona, where she and Bill spent many happy winter seasons for decades after her retirement from the Aurora Public Schools. She and Bill loved to camp all over the U.S. and Canada in their trusty Airstream, and took advantage of all the benefits the snowbird Arizona life had to offer: hiking with the Apache Wells club and with her children and grandchildren, biking, swimming, and of course golf. But June never tired of the Colorado mountains, and was always happy to return home during summers to see the wildflowers and take walks in the splendor of the autumn Aspen groves. She particularly enjoyed being back in Colorado to be able to spend more time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, her parents, and her siblings. She is survived by four children: Martha, of Denver; Daniel, of Aurora and Mesa, Judy, (Ken) of Aurora, and James, of Bozeman, Montana. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Heather (Pedro), Rachael (Tony), Amanda (Leslie); Karli (Jeramie), Sam, Emma, Ellie, and Will, and by six great-grandchildren: Olivia, Luisa, Nathan, Oscar, Cecilia, and Ariana, all of whom will miss her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Apache Wells Community Church, Mesa, Arizona, in her name.
