June Beasley was born Aug, 4th 1928 in Denver. She spent her early years in Brush, Colorado on a family farm. June's earliest memory of her life is walking down a street in Brush with her father ,Guy, on one side and her dog, Jack, on the other. She remembers how safe she felt. Maude, her mother, believed that there was no problem that couldn't be solved by faith in God and hard work. Her first memory of her mom was cutting out squares of cloth with her to make quilts.
Her family moved to Denver when she was 13 years old. She loved riding the street cars for a dime.
She graduated East High School and attended one year at Denver University. She met Bill Gunderson at D.U. in 1947 and they married August 19, 1950. One year later August 26, 51, her first daughter, Gaye arrived. Followed by Janet on
September 8, 1955, Julie April 8 1961, and Laurie August 26, 1963. Six months after Bill and June married, Bill was called back into the Air Corps (soon to be designated as the US Air Force) and sent to Biloxi. After Biloxi, they were transferred to the Air Force base on Cape Cod. Mom loved her time exploring the Cape with Bill and Gaye. Their last trip before Bill was discharged was driving up the coast of Maine, then back to Massachusetts then back to Colorado.
Her first home was in the Park Hill neighborhood. She designed the home the family eventually moved to in Englewood, Co. around 1961 .
In 1968, she was cajoled into running for election as City Clerk of Greenwood Village. Because she ran against a firmly entrenched incumbent, people told her that she couldn't win the election but they were wrong. She won the election becoming the first City Clerk of Greenwood Village. For the next 10 years, she had a front row seat to watch municipal government in action. This was also the beginning of her interest in politics. She loved the Law and went back to school and studied to be a paralegal working for local lawyers for several years.
She loved the mountains and spending time at the family cabin outside of Idaho Springs. She spent much of the summer of 07 at the cabin.
She loved to travel, England and Texas were her most frequent trips. but she also visited France, Ireland (for Saint Patricks Day), Scandanavia, Germany, Norway, Switzerland and a corner of Italy.
Reading has been a source of enjoyment all of her life and the people she looked up to when she was young were authors who were women. As an adult, it was often her goal to get the new best sellers as soon as they arrived on the book store shelves.
She loved playing games with her friends and family. An impromptu card game could pop up at any time. Michigan Rummy and RummyQ are two favorites.
She loved her friends, playing bridge with the Fearsome Foursome was a favorite way to spend a day.
She is survived by her husband Bill; Daughters Gaye , Janet, Julie, and Laurie; Sons-in-law, Alex Trujillo, Carter Macey and Michael Kohl; grandchildren: Kim and Brian Trujillo, Katie and Jack Kohl, and Isabella June Macey.
What really, really made her happy was family celebrations, watching her children and grandchildren mature into such good, decent human beings and seeing her girls marry the finest men in the world. She also loved mornings in the mountains at the cabin sitting there on the steps with a cup of coffee and watching the hummingbirds. She also enjoyed a good book.
The Serenity Prayer.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.
