Karen Margaret Baca
July 31st 1956-May 12th 2022
Karen Baca was born in Dover, Delaware to parents Spiro (Sam) and Madonna (Donna) Katopodes. She is survived by her children Jimmy and David Baca, her siblings Kathy (Jeff) Bryant, Kristie (Dwayne) Fields, Jerry (Marilyn) Katopodes, Paul (Lisa) Katopodes, Teresa Katopodes, her nieces Samantha (Brian) O'Neil, Delaney Katopodes, her grand daughter Ariana Richmond as well as many beloved cousins around the world.
The Katopodes family moved to Aurora in 1970 where Karen lived for most of her adult life. She worked at Joslins, managed a liquor store, owned a video store, then became a book keeper, but her most accomplished and satisfying job was being a mom.
Karen was a survivor. She faced so many battles in life, including cancer, and came out a victor. One major battle of love and dedication was caring for her son Jimmy who has special needs. Karen faced her battles with such grace, strength and perseverance when others would have given up. Many times over, she was told that she was an inspiration to others. Her son David considered her the best mother in the world and a true saint.
Karen loved reading, travel, her family, playing bingo with her favorite "girls", and music. Some of her favorites included Rod Stewart, Jimmy Buffet, Pink Floyd, and Dwight Yoakum. She will always be remembered with love.
