Karen E. Abrahamson

Karen E. Abrahamson passed away at home in Castle Rock on August 18, 2009, after a valiant eight-year struggle with cancer. Born August 21, 1944, in Washington D.C. to John and Erna Abrahamson, she also spent part of her childhood in Montana, a state that held a special place in her heart. Karen earned a political science degree from the University of Arizona and two master's degrees in social work from the University of Denver. She moved to Colorado in 1976 to work for the State of Colorado, most recently as a prevention liaison for the CDHS Division of Behavioral Health. She married David Farnell in 1988 in Castle Rock. In addition to tireless dedication to her work, Karen enjoyed travelling, spending time in both the Rocky Mountains and Desert Southwest, gardening, reading and keeping in close touch with dear friends and family across the country. She was also a talented seamstress and quilter, and many of us were lucky recipients over the years of her handcrafted treasures.

Karen's strength, courage and bright spirit are an inspiration. She is survived by husband, David Farnell, stepdaughters Marty George of Loveland, Amy Farnell of Breckenridge, Tracy Reynolds of Mountain View, CA, nine grandchildren, and many devoted friends who provided loving care, especially in the last weeks.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 5, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 750 Cantril, Castle Rock, CO 80104.

Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen "For The Cure".
