Karen Anne Shumake

September 25, 1956 — May 3, 2021

Karen Anne Shumake died early on the morning of May 3, 2021 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's, leaving behind six siblings: Don Shumake of Colorado City; Keith Shumake of Pueblo; Susan Rookstool of Littleton; Pat Garbiso of Henderson, Dennis Shumake of Fontana and Jim Shumake of Pueblo; numerous nieces and grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews, cousins and second cousins. Karen is pre-deceased by her mother and father, Marjorie and Edgar Shumake, grandparents Adeline and David Shumake and grandmother, Carrie Alwin.

Karen lived by her own made-up philosophy: "That's not nice," "I'm sorry," and "I love you." She was a collector of baseball cards and hats, cowboy hats (red was her favorite color!), wrist watches, DVD's of her favorite movies, and last but not least, people's hearts. When trying to grasp the concept of death, Karen often said "I can't die...what will happen to my stuff?" Her family hopes she has now found peace leaving it behind. Karen loved parties and get-togethers with her family and friends, dancing, singing, coloring, watching movies, playing miniature golf, bowling, cats, dogs and horses, camping, riding 4-wheelers and most of all her birthday and Santa Claus.

Her ashes will be scattered at a site over on the Western Slope called Mount Soprus where her parent's ashes were previously scattered.
