Katie was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and grew up in Los Alamos and Jemez Springs, NM. While growing up, Katie participated in ballet and art classes and ran track for Los Alamos High School.
In 2012, she moved to Broomfield with her twin sister Courtney and her mom Renee. Katie began immediately making new friends and putting down roots. She enjoyed hiking and loved the mountains and all that living in Colorado brought to her.
Katie was an avid reader with many favorite books, and she was always consulting her brother Josh about books to read next. She frequently shared which book she was reading or podcast she found. Katie's intellect showed in her ability to learn quickly and her charming wit.
Katie enjoyed many artistic hobbies and could easily pick up new ones. She enjoyed knitting things for loved ones and singing both alone and in choral settings. She was talented in makeup artistry, and even cutting and coloring hair, including her own. Many of her family members and friends have pieces of her creations made from love with her two hands.
While working her day job and pet-sitting, Katie pursued her college degree. She graduated from Front Range Community College in December 2020 with an Associate of Arts degree.
Katie's heart for serving others led her to learn American Sign Language in college to better support and communicate with the deaf community.
Katie cultivated deep bonds with the people in her life. Her love for her siblings, cousins, and friends will never end. She invested in us all and is remembered for her generosity, kindness, compassion, empathy, wonderful sense of humor, and for making sure others felt important, included, and valued.
Katie has always been and will forever be our family's bright, shining light. Her presence on earth is greatly missed, but she lives on in our hearts and lives.
