Kathie Rodeback Atkinson
Our beautiful and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Kathie Rodeback Atkinson, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at age 73 after an accidental fall in her home. She was surrounded by loved ones seen and unseen as she took her last breaths completing her mortal journey.
Kathie was the oldest daughter of Charles and Ila Rodeback, born December 17, 1946, and raised in Lindon, Utah along with her siblings Kent, Charlane, Delynn, and Rick. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1965.
We imagine a precious reunion with her parents as they welcomed her home. Her dear father sweetly singing and her mother wondering what took her so long.
Kathie married Curtis Atkinson February 10, 1972, in the Salt Lake City Temple and were sealed for time and all eternity. Together they raised six children: Alan (Meredith), Washington, D.C.; Aaron (Jennifer), Lehi, UT; Gordon (Trisha), Cedar Hills, UT; Annmarie, Aurora, CO; Alisa (Zach Sawyer), Ogden, UT; and Jacob Atkinson, Lakewood, CO.
They met on a blind date arranged by Kathie's cousin, Sherrie, who was married to Curtis' brother, Grant. Curtis was home on leave from the Navy and they spent the next 21 days together constantly until he went to the Philippines. Near the end of his assignment there, he wrote a letter proposing that they marry upon his return home. To his great joy and surprise, she accepted.
Kathie was a loving grandmother to 12 grandchildren; Sofia, Mirabel, Morgan, Braylen, Chloe, Bridger, Madison, Landon, McKinley, Kennedy, Kendall, and Grayson. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren especially as they shared their many talents. She was always so thoughtful to remember their birthdays and pick out the perfect Christmas gift.
Kathie loved her family fiercely and was a loyal supporter of her children and grandchildren. We could always count on her to be our ally and defender, no matter the situation. She loved us unconditionally and was always supportive. She had our backs, even if we were in the wrong. She was quiet and reserved, yet could hold her own and had no problem letting anyone know when she did not like something.
Over the years, Kathie enjoyed sewing, tending to her garden, playing piano, working on puzzles, and indexing records for family history research.
Kathie was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We find comfort in our knowledge of Heavenly Father's plan of salvation and that families can be together forever.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses at St. Anthony Hospital for the tremendous care and compassion Kathie received during her final days. As a side note, she always called it St. Agony's and her feelings were valid considering 5 of her 6 children were born there.
