Kathleen Day Woods, aged 63, passed away on November 15, 2023 in Aurora, Colorado of a short, tragic, unexpected illness. Kathleen was born Marah Kathleen Day in Poplarville, MS, December 6, 1959, to Charles E. Day and Marah Suzanne Smith Day.
Kathleen spent her childhood years on Friendship Farm, Wiggins, MS. High School years were spent in Orlando and Windemere, Florida attending Oak Ridge High School and West Orange High School. Kathleen attended the University of Florida and Valencia Community College earning her Registered Nursing Degree. In 2002, she completed her Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Regis University, Denver, Colorado. Kathleen spent her professional career working in Critical Care Nursing, and Clinical Nursing Informatics. Kathleen designed, implemented, and supported Meditech and EPIC Health Care Enterprise Management Systems.
Kathleen's sense of adventure and her love of helping and caring for others led her to Travel Nursing. She enjoyed contracts all over the United States including Alaska, Connecticut, Florida, and Hawaii, but she always returned to Denver in the winter for skiing. Denver is where she chose to make her home in 1995, where she met the love of her life, Daniel P Woods. Daniel and Kathleen were working at the same hospital, North Suburban Medical Center. Dan was a Radiology Technician and Kathleen an ICU Nurse. They were married May 20, 2000. Their honeymoon included a road trip to Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver Island, Canada. A famous quote during their trip was Dan telling Kathleen, "You make a better Nag than a Navigator" during a road map fiasco.
They settled into family life in Thornton, Colorado, with their son, Marcus. Watching Marcus grow and become a wonderful young man was their shared joy. Family was of the utmost importance to Dan and Kathleen. Their entire network of family, friends, and colleagues enriched their lives. Other joys were summer vacations, ski trips, hiking trips in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah, Florida, Alaska and visiting family in Mississippi. They also enjoyed international travel to the Caribbean, Mexico, Greece, and Italy.
Kathleen led an incredible life that impacted her family, friends, and colleagues. The outpouring of love, prayers, and stories this last week is a testament to her live well lived.
