Keith Harold Shears was called Home by
our Heavenly Father on July 26th, 2023 after
a short but courageous battle with cancer.
His youngest children David and Karen were
lovingly by his side at Karen's home in
Anchorage, AK.
Keith was the first child of Harold Wesley
Shears and Jessie [Denham] Shears born on
October 2nd, 1931 in Denver, CO. Growing
up he enjoyed fishing, riding horses and
worked as a paper boy from a young age.
With the Korean War underway Keith
enlisted in the Navy in October 1950 and
was assigned to the U.S. Naval Training
Center in San Diego, CA. Keith served on
the USS LST 1081 as a Boatswain Mate 3
and was awarded the National Defense
Service Medal before his Honorable
Discharge in August 1954.
It's been said "that the measure of a man
is determined by how he treats his mother"
and Keith loved Jessie above all others and
she by far was his favorite dance partner!!
Keith's legacy and his family journey
began on a Greyhound Bus traveling from
Denver to San Diego in 1950. On that bus
sat 2 sisters, Doris and Shirley Wallace.
Keith's and Shirley's eyes met and it was
love at first sight, with big sister Doris trying
to keep them apart without success!
Keith and Shirley married and the journey
continues through their 5 children;
Deborah Caponi [Richard], Michael [Elaine],
Steven [Jeanne], David, Karen Morris [Kelly].
Keith lived a long life, knew his grandkids
and many of his great grandkids, he always
enjoyed spending time with them and many
inherited his steller jay blue eyes...
14 grandchildren; Aaron Sivey,
Tracy Sivey [Leilla], Shauna Robinson [Brett],
Chris, Carly and Corey Shears, Collin Vissir
[Kari], Nathan Shears[Amie], Bryan Shears
[Alana], Sierra Shears, Elliott Morris [Madison],
Faythe Morris, Caroline and Lucas Morris.
14 great grandchildren; Cameron, Mia and
Aly Sivey, Xander and Mykeila Sivey, Ezekiel
and Celeste Robinson, Dakota, Taylor and
Owen Souders, Preston and Kaitlin Shears,
Frankie Vissir, and Clara Shears.
When Keith was discharged from the
Navy the young couple with their baby girl
moved home to Denver where Keith began a
successful career as an Electrician and within
4 years moved his then family of 5 to CA
where he attended San Jose City College,
earning certification as a Master Electrician.
Keith was the Electrical Contractor for a new
San Jose subdivision, Cambrian Park
where he bought their first home. Keith
was happy to recently see online that the
homes he helped build have aged well,
the neighborhood is thriving and those
homes are currently valued close to $2 million.
He also owned an Electric Company and
Lighting Showroom in Medford, OR before
returning to Denver in 1966. After finding
their paths back in Denver, Keith and Shirley
were very successful. Shirley as a Land Developer
and Land Sales Real Estate Broker. Keith owned
and operated Colorado Cap Company which
made high quality baseball caps with embroidered
logos, designed by his very creative son David!
Colorado Caps were worn on the sidelines
at college football games and available at
Ski Resorts in Colorado, plus gift and travel shops
around the country.
Keith retired to Florence, AZ in 1992 where
he spent his days playing golf and weekend nights
dancing. Keith was an amazing ballroom dancer
and commanded every dance floor he stepped
onto! He cared deeply for his many friends in AZ
and them for him. Keith was truly blessed by his
15 year relationship with Phyllis Carder, his dance
partner and summer travel companion, visiting his
children, siblings and their mutual friends.
Keith is survived by his only sister Joan Lemley,
her son John Tucker [Renae], his sister-in-laws
Miriam Shears, Anna Shears and Janet Bruno.
His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren
many nieces, nephews and Phyllis Carder's
children Ted Rekart [Sue] and Suzie Terry.
Keith was proceeded in death by his parents,
Shirley Wallace Shears, his brothers James Shears,
and Michael Shears, brother-in-law George Lemley,
Phyllis Carder and his dear friends Mark Terry
and Wally Walker.
Keith experienced great success, yet near the
end of his life when asked by his youngest child
"what he considered his greatest achievement"
he heartfully answered "Marrying your Mother!"
Their legacy lives on...
