Kenneth E. "Ken" Lubbers, of Littleton, the Owner and Operator of AKL Heating and Air Conditioning, passed away August 11, 2008.
Ken was born and raised in Lamar, Colorado. He graduated from high school and then went into the U.S. Navy for two years. After serving two years in the Navy he went back to Lamar and attended two years at the Junior College.
He met his wife Colene while in college. They were married almost 60 years.
They have two sons who are very important to them. He was a wonderful father. He loved it when everyone got together at their home for birthdays and other holidays.
He was a die hard Bronco fan for 30 years and they attended most of the games over those 30 years. They got to attend Super Bowl XXXII, when the Broncos won their first Super Bowl Championship.
He was a member of the Alameda Baptist Church.
He and Colene moved to Denver in 1972 where he continued a career in the Heating and Air Conditioning business. In 1984 he started his own business and continued working until his death. The thought of not going to work seemed almost foreign to him. He was killed on the way to a job.
He will be missed by so many: His wife Colene, his sons Dennis Lubbers and wife Debbie Bouchard, and Steve Lubbers and wife Barbara Lubbers. His grandchildren Travis Lubbers, who brought them so much joy, Michelle DeGuire and her husband Chris DeGuire and his great grandchild Ben DeGuire. He also is survived by his brothers Floyd Lubbers and his wife Joanne, and Don Lubbers. There are many nieces and nephews that will miss Uncle Ken.
His family was very important to him, but so were the customers he had over the years. Many times he would go out in the cold night to get one of them some heat during a cold night. I am sure those customers will miss him as well.
He loved to garden and do yard work. He had a running battle with the wildlife over who was going to eat the fruits and vegetables. When he left the house that last morning he was grumbling about the darn raccoons that were eating his corn.
Memorial Services, Sunday, August 24, 2008 at 2:00PM at the Newcomer - West Metro Chapel, with Rev. Jim Elland, officiating. Services will conclude in the Chapel. Following the memorial service there will be a reception at the Shenandoah Club House, 4851 South Shenandoah Way, Aurora, CO. (This is a gated community, so please refer to "Lubbers Reception" when arriving at main gate).
Memorial contributions in Ken's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
