Ken Bruening, age 72 of Aurora, Colorado, died on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Aurora Medical Center after a month long battle with Covid 19.

A Private Family Service will be held on Thursday January 14, 2021 at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Aurora, CO. He will be honored with a Military Service at the Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver

Ken was born on May 29, 1948 in Yankton, SD to Bernard Arnold and Geraldine Marie (Maly) Bruening. He was the 2 nd of 10 children and grew up on a dairy farm southwest of St. Helena, Nebraska. He attended St. Mary's elementary school and graduated from Wynot High School in1966. He attended airline school in Kansas City and worked for Braniff International at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from March of 1968 to March of 1970 spending one year on the Scout Dog Patrol on the DMZ in Korea. Ken married Sandy Smith in June of 1972 and together they had a son Ken Jr. He moved to Aurora and worked for Continental Airlines. Ken married Mary Husiak on July 11, 1981 in Aurora and together they had a son Nick and a daughter Stefanie. He worked as a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad for 10 years retiring in 2007. Ken then worked part time at Lowes in Aurora. He loved coming home to the farm to help with harvest and enjoyed tending to his big garden at home. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in his younger days he was an avid softball player.

Ken is survived by his wife Mary Bruening of Aurora, a son Ken and Jackie Bruening of Omaha, NE, a son, Nick Bruening of Aurora, a daughter, Stefanie Bruening of Aurora, a grandson, Quinn Bruening and a granddaughter, Lucy Bruening, 4 sisters, Jan and H.B Ewersmann of Hot Springs Village, AR, Carla and Jim Wintz of Hartington, NE; Lynn and Jude Hobza of Omaha; Mary and Duane Miner of Seward, NE; 2 brothers, Tom and Pam Bruening of Norfolk, NE and Joe and Juanita Bruening of St. Helena.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Ron, Jim and Daryl Bruening.
