Dr. Kenneth (Ken) Wayne Franklin Engelbrecht was born March 4, 1943, in Watertown Wisconsin to Arnold Engelbrecht and Esther Engelbrecht (nee Oestrich). He was baptized April 11 of 1943 and confirmed in May of 1957. At the time of his confirmation his pastor noted that he would make an excellent teacher. While attending college at the University of Wisconsin, Madison he met, and later married, the love of his life, Marie Engelbrecht (nee Sullivan). Over the course of a 53-year marriage, they had four wonderful children, Jason, Jeremy, Christopher, and Stephanie as well as eight incredible grandchildren, Janelle, Rachel, Adelina Jo, Christopher (CJ), Nathaniel, Jason Alexander Kenneth, Lyric Finn, and Olivia. Ken was a loving father-in-law to Jason's wife, Rose Engelbrecht for 27 years and Stephanie's husband, Todd Shank for over two decades.

Ken spent nearly four decades in education as a teacher, professor, and advisor, eventually serving as the head of the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department at Metro State University in Denver, Colorado.

Ken truly enjoyed teaching, mentoring, and helping others and was blessed to be in a career that made use of his talents. He was incredibly pleased to retire in Colorado as he had a life-long love of the Rockies and enjoyed all the mountains had to offer. He was kind, loving, and dedicated to his family and will be missed until his family is reunited with him in Heaven.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52 verse 7
