Kenton Douglas Mapes, 67, of Denver died on June 2, 2020. He was born to Thomas and Rethel Mapes on September 27, 1952 in Denver, CO. He is survived by his wife Diane Mapes, children Sara Mapes, Jade Henley (Shawn) and Kelly Cryder (Kurt); one sister, Carla Rodriguez, four granddaughters and one grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Rethel Mapes.
Throughout his life, Kent worked for 43 years in Customer Service and Safety Management. He took so much pride in his work and was a mentor to everyone around him. He was an avid Broncos and CU Buffaloes fan and a sports enthusiast. He was accomplished at basketball, football and golf and completed six marathons all over the United States. During his life, he had six hole-in-ones and coached his daughter Kelly's basketball team for six years.
He was married to his wife Diane for just short of 34 years. His family and friends considered him to be kind, welcoming, charismatic and charming. He had an amazing sense of humor, and the biggest heart. He gave a nickname to everyone he met and cared deeply for animals. He was an incredible father and provider to his family and loved his three daughters and five grandchildren beyond measure. In his daughters' eyes, he will always be the biggest, strongest man in the universe and his grandchildren will always remember and love their Pa.
He was surrounded by his loved ones during his last days, and everyone who knew him will miss him dearly. In his words, "signing off for now."
