Laverl Afton Watson, 83, formally of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023.
Laverl was born to Erwin and Eliza Loose in Alberta, Canada on August 21, 1939. Her family relocated to Moses Lake, Washington where she finished high school and met her spouse, Robert Watson. They married on July 18, 1957 and soon after started a family. Due to military service, they lived in Japan and Virginia before settling in Colorado in 1967. In the same year, Laverl and Robert were sealed together in the Cardston, Alberta Temple.
Laverl was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served with joy and purpose in Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and Cub Scouts. She was also the world's best (camp) cook and fought off several bears to save the food. Her devotion, kindness, and warmth touched the lives of so many people in her community, especially her children.
She liked to dance in her youth and enjoyed watching ice hockey and softball, as well as any other event in which her loved ones participated. She loved family camping trips, quilting, puzzles, geneology, cooking and holding her grandchildren at family dinners. She was quick to laugh and enjoyed playing games, especially Rook and Scrabble.
Laverl is survived by her spouse, Robert Harvey Watson; her children: Lori Dattage, Douglas Watson, Kelly Ronan, Karen Garrett, Sara Clint and Aiden Watson; her 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Carolyn Norman and Corrine Emery.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Erwin and Eliza Loose, sister Jean Coad, brother Dennis Loose, and children Steven Watson and Michael Watson.
A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home at 190 Potomac St., Aurora, 5pm to 7pm on Tuesday the 18th of April.
There will be an additional viewing at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 950 Laredo St, Aurora Co 80011 on Wednesday, April 19th at 9am followed by services at 10am. Please join us for lunch after the funeral services at the Laredo building.
Interment will be Thursday at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
