Her hands and mind were never idle. If she was not working a crossword or Jig Saw puzzle she was crocheting, sewing, or hand knitting. She became prolific as a hand and machine knitter. For years she entered her knitting at the Colorado State Fair and won many awards and ribbons. Once she entered the contest for a Baby Layette for International Competition in Japan and won second prize.
In the last years of her life she endured considerable pain as her health deteriorated. She had osteoporosis that led to two back fusions, one in 1998 and the second in 2006. She had two attacks of a inflammatory neuropathy in 1999 and 2000. She had breast cancer and mastectomy in 1999 and eye surgery on both eyes in 2002.
