Leda Jane DeVargas, 96, of Denver, passed away November 29, 2019.
She was born January 1, 1923 in Ely, Nevada, the daughter of Frank and Faye (Cleveland) Nookie. A member of the Te-Moak Tribe of Western Shoshone Elko Band.
Leda participated in the SW Improvement Center's Senior Program for the last 18 years.
Leda enjoyed sewing, beading and crocheting. She was an avid reader.
Leda is survived by daughter, Carol Lee Ortega; son, Alex (Alicia) Vigil; ten grandchildren, Christine (Billy) Martinez, Jackie (Henry) Armijo, Ted (Wanda) Alegria, Samuel (Felicia) Alegria, Regina Alegria, Stephanie Alegria, Alyssa (Darryl John) Vigil, Anthony Vigil, Alexis Vigil and Alexxander Vigil; 14 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lilly Garcia and Darlene Hicks and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Leo DeVargas and Sisto Ortega; son-in-law, Theodore Alegria; 1 great-grandchild, Thomas Martinez; father, Frank Nookie; mother, Faye Cleveland; sister, Ramona Cobez; sister, Daisy Nookie; sister, Evelyn Ortega; brother, Chester Cleveland.
