Leonard Scott Coburn

January 31, 1928 — December 11, 2020

Leonard Scott Coburn 92, of Aurora passed away Dec. 11, 2020.
He was born to Charles and Marguerite Scott Coburn on Jan 31, 1928 in Ft. Hancock, New Jersey.
While a child, his family relocated to Denver. As a teenager toward the end of WWII, he joined the Coast Guard and was assigned to the base in Ketchikan as a buoy tender, at a time when there was still concern about a Japanese attack on Alaska.
After mustering out, he returned to the Denver area and found his way into tree care. He eventually established Coburn Landscape and Tree Care, running it until he retired.
Leonard was married to Joanne Schuch Coburn for 59 years and to this union were born two daughters.
He enjoyed taking his family to the mountains, fishing, and hiking. Always an athlete, he continued hiking well into his upper eighties, and until Covid closed it down earlier in the year, often rode his bike to the rec center to lift weights.
He had a great love for the Bible, and read it daily through his adult years, no doubt to his last day.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joanne, his sisters Dorothy Holt and Mary Henwood, and his brother Warren Coburn.
He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Haynes and husband Rick of Ovid; his daughter Mary Smith and husband Steve of Sterling; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested for Denver Hospice, which Leonard continued to support after Joanne's death.

A graveside service will be held at Fairmont Cemetery on Dec. 28. Newcomer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
