Lexie Steele, beloved Mom, Grammie, "G.G.", Aunt and friend died peacefully at her assisted living "home away from home" in Centennial, CO on November 24, 2021.

She is survived by her three children, Judith Buffalohead (Rene) of MI, Virginia Holbrook (Rick) of CA, and Barry Steele (Karen) of NM; grandchildren Eric, Chris, Hannah, Payton and Cole, and four great grandchildren. Lexie was predeceased by her husband Bob in 1975 and grandson Brandon in 1985.

Born in Trinidad, CO, Lexie's family eventually moved to Alamosa, CO where she completed her education. Shortly after graduating high school, Lexie moved to Denver where she worked as an aircraft "parts runner" during WWII for Continental Airlines. She met and married her husband Bob while working there. After brief moves to Chicago, IL and Coquille, OR, they settled once again in Denver. Lexie held clerical positions with two Denver banks, getting awards from both for being the fastest "key punch operator" (manual check processor) in the company. As her husband's career as a manufacturer's representative in the electronics and aerospace industry flourished, Lexie was able to be a stay-at-home mom for several years before returning to the workforce and joining Wilkerson Corporation of Englewood, CO. Employed there for 20+ years, she worked as a payroll specialist until her retirement at age 72.

Lexie's greatest love was spending time with her family. She was often inclined to make the 9-hour drive to NM for a visit with her son and his family, stopping along the way to visit her sister Josephine in Alamosa, or to board a jet for travels to CA, OR, Mexico or Hawaii. In later years, she and her youngest sister Eloise became frequent visitors at each other's homes and great traveling companions. At 97 ½, Lexie has left a beautiful, strong thread in the tapestry of our family. She will always be loved, and never forgotten.

Lexie's family invites you to leave remembrances here. A family gathering to celebrate Lexie's life is planned for Spring 2022, date & location to be announced.
