Linda Mae Herrema was born on August 5, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Nicholas and Dorothy VanderVliet. She was the youngest of their four children – all daughters: Ruth Eckhardt (deceased), June Woudstra (deceased), Doreen Potter, and Linda.
Linda attended South Christian High School in Grand Rapids where she met Arland Herrema. They were married in 1959 and raised their family in the Grand Rapids area. In 1981 they moved to Denver for work and soon all their children followed and they too settled in the Denver area. Linda was a care-giver and faithful friend to so many. She cleaned houses for several years and then worked as a CNA in private homes and for the Christian Living Communities. Her heart was one of service – it was never about her – but always about relationships and keeping connected with her family and friends. She and Arch served at Restoration Outreach Food Bank for the past several years, along with caring dearly for elderly people who needed assistance. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Michigan where she could be with her family and friends. Her favorite moments were those spent with her children and grand children on vacations, long weekends away, holiday-birthday-wedding-anniversary celebrations, picnics, coffee times, and breakfast or lunch at Burger King with Arch.
In February 1989 Linda was diagnosed with Acute Pro-Mylositic Leukemia, had extensive chemotherapy treatments, was in and out of remission, and then in the fall of 1990 survived a bone marrow transplant that cured her. She was amazing – strong - and unwavering in her attitude of hope and faith that she would beat the cancer! She leaves her family with an amazing testimony of God's power and grace during this "storm" in her life!
Linda deeply and faithfully loved her husband Arch, and their children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. God blessed their home with 4 children and their spouses: Scott and Beverly, Steven and Kelly, Barbara (Van Eps) and Dan, and Michael and Yvonne. Linda's pride and joy were her 14 grand-children: Jordan, Austin (Marissa), Shelby (Justin), Blake, Ashley (Casey), Andrew (Risa), Emily, Danielle (Andrew), Bailey (Jason), Joshua (Emily), Morgan (Connor), Clay, Alexandra, and Nathan, along with 9 great-grandchildren: Aliza, Ronin, Ryker, Declan, Hendrik, Annalise, Brody, Holden, Brock, with 3 more to be added by summer 2021 (Bailey, Risa, and Marissa are all expecting). What a beautiful legacy!
Arch's wife - our mom – grandma – great-grandma – beloved sister – faithful friend – was suddenly – in just a breath – taken away from us AND put in Jesus' arms on Friday night February 19, 2021.
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."
-Ecclesiastes 3:11
