Lloyd W. Gundy, 82, passed away on May 20, 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Wilma; son, Lew; daughter Terry (Hans) Stuart; grandsons Aaron Gundy, Justin Gundy and Matthew Stuart; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Julie Gundy; his brother, Roland Gundy; and his sister, Ladine Schertz.
Lloyd was a historian and scholar. After he retired from his career as a technical service advisor, he earned a master's degree in history from the University of Colorado. He volunteered at the Colorado Historical Society, and became a noted authority on the life of William Henry Jackson, pioneering artist and photographer of the Old West.
Lloyd had a keen mind and pursued a wide range of interests. He loved music, and had a special fondness for Dixieland jazz and big-band music. He was a gifted mechanic who loved cars, and he spent many hours restoring his 1963 Mercury convertible. He loved nature and the mountains, and he was an excellent amateur photographer.
Most of all, Lloyd loved his family and his faith. He treated every person he met with kindness, gentleness and respect. He was devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ, and served as a Mennonite minister early in his life. Lloyd was a model of faithfulness, integrity, thoughtfulness and compassion. His family will always treasure his bright smile and gentle humor.
A memorial service and celebration of Lloyd's life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 11:00 am, at Arvada United Methodist Church, 6750 Carr Street, Arvada, Colorado 80004. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arvada United Methodist Church or to the Colorado Historical Society, 1300 Broadway, Denver, Colorado 80203.
