Lois Bingham
January 3, 1930 – September 20, 2024
Lois Bingham brought joy and light into every day of her 94 years. Margaret Lois (Swan) Bingham was born on January 3, 1930, in Wabash, Indiana. She passed peacefully, surrounded by family, in her Lakewood, Colorado, home on September 20, 2024.
Lois studied elementary education at Indiana University in the 1940s. She lived in the Alpha Phi sorority house, where she developed her lifelong passion for the card game of bridge which she played well into her 90s.
At a Hoosiers football game, Lois met Ed Bingham, a handsome World War II veteran. On their first date, Ed asked Lois to marry him. They married in 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. For 63 years until his death in 2015, Lois was Ed’s “Babe.”
Lois and Ed raised their two children in the mining town of White Pine, Upper Michigan. When Ed accepted an executive position with AMAX Mining Inc, they relocated in 1978 to Lakewood, Colorado.
Lois operated antique shops in Michigan and the Denver area. She loved shopping at thrift stores and became friends with many of the people who worked there. She retired at age 90 after 55 years in business.
Lois was known for her quick wit and gratitude for everything in her life. She laughed a lot and saw the best in everyone around her. She was a woman of deep faith and belief.
Lois was a voracious reader, always improving herself. The last book she read was “Fearless Living”. She was a wicked bridge player and a patient assembler of 1000-piece puzzles. At age 93 she took up the game of ping pong to stay limber.
Lois often said, “My job is letting people know how much fun it is to be in your 90s,” which she embodied with cheerful whistling. In her later years, she was a frequent visitor to her daughter’s home in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where she made many friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Edward Ross Bingham, her parents, two sisters, and a brother. She is survived by a daughter Nancy (Ning) Wiebmer (John) of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and a son Joe Bingham (Kristy) of Lakewood, Colorado, five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild on the way.
Lois will be interred with her husband, Edward, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on what would have been their 72nd wedding anniversary.
