Lois Marie (Claassen) Dick, 81, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 26th, 2018 at Wheatridge Manor Care Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Lois was born July 7, 1936, in Newton, Kansas, and was the daughter of Arthur and Edna Claassen of Newton, Kansas.
Lois married Wally Dick on December 16, 1956, in Newton, Kansas. They were married for 24 amazing years. Lois received her nursing degree from Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, where she worked as a nurse in Labor and Delivery.
In 1968, Lois and Wally moved their family to Gunnison, Colorado, where they owned and operated the Western Motel, Restaurant, and Lounge. They became Christ followers in 1973; the Dick Family's lives changed forever. Wally found God first and through his example, Lois and their children soon followed. After becoming Christians, they felt God's prompting to close the lounge and open a Christian bookstore in its place.
After many successful years in Gunnison, the Lord moved the Dick family to Lakewood, Colorado. Wally took a position at Exchanged Life Ministries (formerly Grace Fellowship) where he worked until he passed away in 1981. After Wally's passing, Lois started working for ELM where she eventually became a Christian counselor. Lois was a light in a dark world to so many people. She was quick to love and slow to judge. Everyone with which she came in contact could see God's love through her and were drawn to it.
Lois was a member of Applewood Baptist Church in Lakewood, Colorado, where she counseled after she retired from ELM. It was always her dream to serve as a counselor at her church, and God graciously allowed her to do that for many years.
Lois was a remarkable woman, grandmother, mother, friend, and counselor. She felt it was a true privilege to be used by God in leading many into a relationship with Christ. Her prayer was to be used by God until she took her last breath. Her family and friends find comfort knowing she is with Jesus rejoicing in Heaven. They know when the time comes they will be reunited and celebrating together with Christ.
Lois is survived by her son Michael (Deanne) Dick of Berthoud, Colorado, son Russell (Marion) Dick of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Cindy (Ted) McCaughey of Peoria, Arizona, six grandchildren, and far too many friends to count. She was preceded in death by her husband Wally, her parents Arthur and Edna Claassen, her brother Don Claassen, and sister Alice Dodd.
A Celebration of Lois's life will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, June 20th, at Applewood Baptist Church, 11200 W. 32nd Avenue, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Donations in memory of Lois can be made to Exchanged Life Ministries.
