Lois peacefully passed away on May 6, 2024 in Colorado, where she spent the majority of her years alongside dear family and friends.
She was born on August 27th, 1934 in Lockwood, Missouri. She was the second of three children born to Ella Susanna and Henry Benhart Wehrman.
The historic Dust Bowl brought Lois and her family west to Rocky Ford, Colorado before settling in Poncha Springs. From an early age, Lois found a passion for music, eventually leading her to earn the title of drum majorette at Salida High School. Lois’ education and strong involvement in the community led to a successful career in administration.
Timing and fate allowed Lois to meet her future husband, George, at a community dance held at a small, red schoolhouse. Four years later, the two were married on February 20th, 1954 in Salida, Colorado. Their life was full of adventure and their faithful journey continued for over 60 memorable years together.
In that time, George and Lois started a family. They had two lovely daughters, Karla and Lisa. The four spent many precious years together before the family grew when Lisa had three children with her husband, Cory. Lois’ most cherished moments were spending time with family, friends, neighbors, and members of the church.
Lois was led by faith to become a woman beloved by so many. She will forever be remembered for her generosity and nurturing soul.
Lois was preceded in death by her brother Bud, husband George, and daughter Karla. She is survived by her sister Vicki, daughter Lisa, son-in-law Cory, three grandchildren, Colton, Connor, and Cody, and first great grandson, Scott.
A private burial service was held at Golden Cemetery in Golden, Colorado on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024.
Thank you to all those who took part in Lois’ life and for your love and support.
