In Loving Memory of Loretta May Zuniga

Loretta May Zuniga, born on September 9, 1956, in Denver, Colorado, passed away on her 67th birthday, September 9, 2023, in the same city. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many.

Loretta was born to Maclovio and Delfiria Salazar and grew up surrounded by the love of her large family. She was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings: Lee (Geraldine) Salazar, Thomas (Marcella) Salazar, Floyd Salazar, Roger (Antonia) Salazar, Theodore (MaryLou) Salazar, and Melba (Thomas) Romero, as well as sister-in-laws Marcella Salazar and Tammy Salazar.

She is survived by her devoted husband, David Zuniga of Denver, and their two children, Coreen (Jeffrey) Janusheske and Domino (Robin) Zuniga. Loretta was a loving grandmother to Skylar Windholz, Zander Janusheske, and James Trujillo. She is also survived by her caring siblings: Maxine (Louie) Valdez, Archie (Karen) Salazar, Maxwell (Tammy) Salazar, Sidney (Jennifer) Salazar, Steve (Brandi) Salazar, and Marcella (Clete) Esquibel, as well as sister-in-laws Antonia (Roger) Salazar, MaryLou (Theodore) Guadet, and Geraldine (Lee) Salazar. Loretta also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Loretta's life was filled with a rich tapestry of experiences and accomplishments. She embarked on a successful career, beginning at the United States Postal Service, in Commerce City, later transferring to USPS DTC. She pursued her education diligently, earning certificates in various computer studies at Emily Griffin. She then joined the EPA through a student/work study program as an administrative support assistant. Continuing her academic journey, she attended Metro and CU Denver. She later worked for the South West Improvement Council in a significant role and subsequently contributed her skills to the Public Utilities Commission where she was an Administrative Assistant III.

Beyond her professional life, Loretta was a person of deep faith in God and Jesus Christ. Her love for gospel music was a testament to her spiritual connection. She found solace and inspiration in singing gospel hymns and listening to the uplifting melodies that celebrated her faith. Family was her pride and joy, every moment with her loving husband, her children, son in law, daughter in law, and grandchildren, whom she went out of her way to always make them feel loved.

Loretta also had a beautiful voice and found joy in singing. Her guitar was a cherished companion, and in her youth, she delighted in flamenco dancing. She had a deep appreciation for the beauty of Colorado, often embarking on road trips to places like Las Vegas and the San Luis Valley in Monte Vista. where she grew up. She relished the great outdoors, savoring the breathtaking scenery that her home state had to offer.

Loretta's warm smile, caring nature, and vibrant spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived.
