Lowell Andrew Reichert (87) of Littleton, CO passed away in his sleep early in the morning on Thursday November 29, 2018. He was born to the late Andrew and Marie Reichert on February 6, 1931 in Fort Collins, CO. His family moved to Denver, CO while Lowell was still quite young. Lowell graduated from West High School in Denver where he met the love of his life and future wife, Louise Janet Schmidt. They were married on September 15, 1950. Louise preceded him in death 13 years ago.
Lowell joined the United States Navy shortly upon graduating from high school, and received a medical discharge due to complications from an injury suffered while in the service of our country. His discharge came just a few months prior to the beginning of the Korean War conflict. He then went to work for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW), serving an apprenticeship and subsequently becoming a journeyman machinist. In those early years of working for the railroad, he was occasionally laid-off and had to find other means of employment but he always returned to the D&RGW when recalled back to work. He retired after nearly 45 years of railroad service.
He was an excellent bowler, and appeared several times on a television show called "King of the Hill" which featured local professional bowlers competing against one another. The game of golf however, was to become his true sports calling. He continued to be an avid golfer, until his physical condition was such that he could no longer play the game. Along the way he achieved quite an accomplishment and managed to sink not just one but two holes-in-one.
Lowell is survived by two children: Larry Reichert (Sue) and Teresa Erickson (Greg) both of Lakewood, CO. He is also survived by four grandchildren (Suzi Murphy, Jeremiah Reichert, Luke Reichert, and Thomas Champion), six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and both of his brothers (Glen and Jack Reichert). A memorial service will be held for Lowell at Newcomer Funeral Home on Monday December 10th at 11:30am, followed by military burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery (Staging Area C) at 1:15pm. The family invites interested attendees to join them for a celebration of Lowell's life at the VFW Post 9644 located at 2680 W. Hampden Avenue in Englewood, CO beginning at 2:00pm. The VFW Post is only minutes away from the cemetery.
