Lucy Kissell was born in Colorado on April 5, 1915 and passed away on June 28, 2005. Her mother Clementine was a homemaker and her father Harris was a mining engineer in the western slope town of Palisade, CO. Her brother Charles was a World War II veteran. She left Palisade to attend the University of Chicago in Illinois for undergraduate work and then attended the prestigious Columbia University in New York City for her Master of Arts degree in 1956. Upon moving to Denver, she became a teacher at Cowell Elementary School and then a Principal at Steck Elementary. With the Denver Public School system for 42 years, she was a member of The Colorado Association of School Executives. Lucy was also a renowned world traveler visiting Greece, Turkey, Scotland, Budapest, Dutch Antilles, Aruba, Panama, and Yugoslavia just to name a few. In addition, Lucy traveled the U.S., coast to coast, top to bottom and left a wealth of memoirs from her travels around the world. Lucy was an avid supporter of the Denver Performing Arts and was honored by former Govenor Dick and wife Dottie Lamm for her community service and contributions. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 11 am, at Newcomer Family West Metro Chapel. Interment will take place Wednesday at the Palisade Municipal Cemetery, Palisade, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Saint John, Lakewood, CO.
