Luke James Prochazka, 52
Born June 20th 1958 in McCook, Nebraska to mother Veau Dell Prochazka (Franklin) and father Louis Prochazka of Atwood, Kansas, Luke was an only child.
Luke was baptized at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood Kansas, to God Parents Carol & Alfred Heble. He attended Parochial Catholic School until the 7th grade and continued his education in the Atwood grade school, graduating from Atwood High School in 1975. Luke had heart surgery at age 9 but was able to participate in sports activities in grade and high school and live a normal life after the surgery. As a child Luke loved the land, especially the smell of freshly turned soil. He grew up working with his parents on the family farm, eventually assuming control, and his environmental career continued throughout his entire life.
After primary school, he attended Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Agriculture. After graduating from Colby Community College Luke attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas for a few semesters until he transferred to Colorado State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in General Agriculture on May 16th, 1981. Luke then moved back to Kansas and continued to help the family with the farming responsibilities. Shortly after returning to Kansas he met Teresa Ann Cahoj of McDonald, Kansas and they were wed on November 20th, 1982. During their marriage Luke and Teresa lived in Atwood, Kansas and gave birth to two boys, Chace Louis Prochazka (1984) and Aaron Henry Prochazka (1987). Around 1988 Teresa & Luke were divorced and Teresa & the boys moved to Greeley, Colorado shortly after.
Luke continued to live in Atwood, Kansas while visiting his boys every opportunity he had. Eventually business opportunity's called for Luke to move to Denver, Colorado and pursue his Paralegal Degree from Denver Paralegal Institute eventually graduating on April 11th, 1997. During this time Luke also met and married his second wife Jennifer Kathleen Delzeit (Dutton) on February 13th 2000. Jennifer had two children from a previous marriage who Luke considered his own, Kara Kathleen Delzeit and Cassi Claar Ward (Delzeit). Around 2003 Luke and Jennifer separated and were divorced in September of 2009.
Living several places, usually a suburb of Denver, Colorado, Luke had a couple different careers. He worked as a stock advisor/broker for a few years, after which he returned to working with the land as he always excelled in and loved. He worked several years for various companies such as: Randle, Blake Inc. (RBI), American Civil Constructors (ACC), FlyWater Construction & HP Environmental Services LLC.
Luke moved into a house in Bennett, Colorado around 2004 with his eldest son Chace while he finished his college school work. Bennett was where Luke continued to live until his death.
Luke was a man of the land and was very good at what he did whether it be farming, constructing, repairing or maintaining. He enjoyed many other things in life. An avid sports fan, especially of professional football and college basketball he never missed a good game. Known to play golf when he found time, he also loved motorsports, taking his children to various racing events whenever he could. He also enjoyed riding his Harley, four wheeler & dirt bike with every opportunity. A superb conversationalist Luke had many friends and it was easy to see why when you met him. A loving father, son and a loyal friend, Luke was always creative, funny, loving and intelligent. Luke had many ventures and plans when he was tragically taken from us in his Bennett home on August 7th, 2010. He will be sorely missed by many family and friends.
