She was born on September 10, 1937 in Greensboro, Alabama to her parents Willie and Hertlena Hamilton- the ninth of ten children.

Mable graduated from Hale County Training School and took the very uncommon step, in that day, of adventuring out of state to stay with a brother, Will Henry, in Virginia, where she took a job in child care and also babysat her nephews.

For some time, Mable had been courted by a pen pal by the name of McCan Williams, who had been deployed to Korea and Japan and Europe. The letter exchanges of support and friendship somehow blossomed into love and eventually one of those letters contained a proposal. In 1957, a day after McCan was discharged, despite never having gone on a physical date, they married at the Courthouse that still stands in downtown Greensboro, Alabama today. After being "saluted" by McCan at that ceremony, Mable and McCan packed up their things into his car- including a metal dipper, a water bucket, and a shovel- after all, they didn't know if there was going to be a well needing to be dug somewhere. Together, they drove all the way across the country to Colorado. McCan had previously been an army soldier stationed at the Fort Carson military base in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which is where they made their home for two years before moving to their more permanent home in Denver, Colorado.

In Denver, in addition to raising the children, Mable often worked right alongside her husband and sons in their Tennis Court Specialist company, which was in operation over 50 years! Prior to retiring in the early 90's, they worked side by side, installing tennis courts all over the Rocky Mountain Region- including in the resort towns of Aspen, Breckenridge, and Vail. Mable was also the company secretary, billing clerk, and scheduler extraordinaire. As busy as they were, they never missed a year without a family road trip back to Alabama for the holidays.

Wherever Mable found herself, she was very devoted in making sure her husband and her children had everything they needed for home, school and work- including hand starched and ironed clothes and delicious made-from- scratch, home-cooked meals with southern style delicacies such as as fried chicken, cornbread, greens, cakes, lemonade, and so much more. Mable absolutely loved to garden and the yard she and McCan created surrounding their home, was known for its many beautiful flowers, fruit trees, and unique rock walls and formations- a standout place in the neighborhood and a place we were all proud to call home.

Mable had many other hobbies too, including crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, collecting and reading books pertaining to the Black experience and matters of social justice and politics, and watching various news programs. One of Mable and McCan's proudest endeavors was their zealous caucusing for Barack Obama and they felt great pride in their role in helping to secure his two presidencies!

Many of Mable's dear friends and relatives across the country will also remember her for her dedication in sending out many beautifully handwritten and personalized letters and Christmas cards each year for years and years, including this past Christmas.

Mable was a devoted wife to McCan for nearly 61 years prior to his death in 2018. She was a beloved mother to six children: Grover Williams (Sheila), Darol Williams, Marilyn Williams Miller (James), Steve Williams, Veronica Pinckney-Shaw (Mark), and Eric Williams; six grandchildren: Gretel, Grover II, Mary, Sarah, Lawson, and Leona. She had four brothers: Booker T, Will Henry, Ocea, and Joe D., and five sisters: Clara, Melvoria, Laura, and Marjorie who preceded her in death, and she is survived by her youngest sister Ceola. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.

Mable's physical life was one well-lived. She was an example of beauty, strength, and determination, all encompassed in love. While she devoted herself to being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, above all, she was a servant of our Lord. We are forever grateful for the time she was with us here on Earth and we so look forward to seeing her and Dad again one day in Heaven. Thank you for her, dear Lord.
