Madeline Walters

Madeline( MAD) Walters (BIG WALT) passed away on August 2, 2004. Madeline was wife to Ray Walters( 51 years); mother to Charlene (Walters) Schutte, Darrel Walters and Ronald Walters; mother-in-law to Chris Schutte; grandmother to Keith and Kurtis Borgaard and Ray Andrew Walters.
Madeline was born Madeline Barry in Danielson, Connecticut on August 10, 1934. At age 18 Madeline joined the Navy to be involved in nursing. In Great Lakes, Illinois Madeline attended the Navy Hospital Corpsman School where she met Ray Walters. While on leave before assignment Madeline married Ray Walters on July 4, 1953. After serving their terms in the Navy, Madeline and Ray settled down in Denver where they raised three children. Madeline drove school bus for Jefferson County Schools for 26 years and retired in 1991.
During their years of retirement Madeline and Ray traveled by trailer and spent their winters in Arizona and Texas square dancing. She had a fondness for animals and children and a compassion for all people. Madeline enjoyed talking to people and learning all that she could about them. At home in the back yard Madeline hand fed squirrels and cared for birds and all animals that would come in the yard. Her favorite animal and constant companion was her Pomeranian sidekick, Valentine.
An enthusiastic person, Madeline was always on the move and often spending her time helping others in need. Possessing a great sense of humor Madeline was always cheerful and greeted everyone with a huge smile. Even when she was not feeling well, Madeline would smile and concern herself with making sure her family was happy and cared for. Madeline was a genuine person who cared for others before herself and we will celebrate her life and lasting memory.
Celebration of Madeline's life will be Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Newcomer West Chapel. Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
