Major Walter Hoffhines, Jr. (retired), 86, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away Friday, June 15, 2007. Born November 4, 1920 in Marion, Ohio to Walter Cleophus and Shirley (Schneemilch) Hoffhines, he was a retired career officer in the US Air Force. Walter served stints during World War II and the Korean War, and then continuously from 1957 until his retirement March 1, 1972, including serving in Vietnam during that war. Prior to making the military his career, he served 15 years as a trooper in the Pennsylvania State Police, and after military retirement he worked 8 years as an inspector for the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, retiring February 15, 1986.
Ruth, his wife of 59 years, preceded Walter in death by six months. He leaves 3 children, Cynthia (Alan) Burns of Lakewood, Walter Stephen (Nancy) Hoffhines of Ontario, OR, and Denise (Larry) Hoffhines-Shields of Lakewood, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
