Marcella M. Brotherton

March 15, 1922 — June 2, 2022

Marcella (Sally) Warner Brotherton died June 2, 2022 in Aurora, CO. She was born on a farm in Hardin County, Iowa on March 15, 1922 and lived to be over 100 years old. She grew up on the family farm with her parents, Ed and Lela Warner and 15 brothers and sisters. She was the 14th child born.

She married Don Brotherton on the farm in 1941. Dad was in the Army for the next 20 years. They had 4 children, Martha and Martin (twins), Lynn and Sue born in different places because of frequent changes in Army assignments. The best assignments were living in Bad Tolz, Germany from 1949-1953 and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii from 1958-1960.

After Dad retired from the Army, Mom finally was able to live in one place, Aurora, CO,from 1960-2022. She finally had her own home and could enjoy her life as a mother and homemaker, enjoying making her home full of love and joy. She was a great cook, quilter, and gardener. She was constantly caring for her plants and flowers. She was an excellent thinker, solving many problems she encountered in her home and yard work.

She enjoyed her church family at Smoky Hill United Methodist who were all a big part of her life these last 40 years.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by 3 children, Martha Myers, Martin (Wanda), and Sue (Peter) Parker) and 1 daughter in law, Kristen Janelle Brotherton, 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, son, Lynn, 1 grandson and 2 great grandsons.

She lived a very full life until a diagnosis of cancer in December, at which time daughter Martha came to care her along with Hospice help. We are all so thankful to Martha for her 6 months of devoted attention to Mom. Granddaughter Holly Malcolm, along with other family members, were a constant help also.
