Marcia Burmeister of San Jose, CA (previously of Madison, WI) passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on January 16, 2020. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Marcia was born in Mason City, Iowa to Mildred and Newton Flarup. The family relocated to Eagle Grove, where she graduated from Eagle Grove Community High School. An accomplished musician from an early age, Marcia sang and played the flute in high school bands as well as the pipe organ for the United Methodist Church (and woe to the choir director caught dozing!).
Marcia was an artist, musician, traveler, businesswoman, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a vital force in her family; a person who always made even everyday events special, and whom everyone always looked forward to seeing. Grandchildren were often not told of her visits until the last moment to keep constant/excited questions of "Is she here yet!?" to a minimum.
She is survived by two sons: Kristjan (Corrie) of Oregon, WI and Justin (Brandy) of Ramona, CA; eight grandchildren (Kaley, Evan, Tyler, Henry, Sophia, Charles, Natalie, Colton); sisters Cheryle Flarup of Lakewood, CO and Tamara Flarup of Madison, WI; former husband Neil Burmeister of Belleville, WI; friend Louis Harris of San Jose, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Family and her many friends will remember Marcia's fun-loving personality, her vitality, thoughtful generosity, and of course, her style. She loved a good glass of wine, friends and family around her, good food, and music. Marcia lived in the present, for the day, and would insist you do too. Her life was full and well lived.
Details for a celebration of her life will be determined at a future date.
