Marguerite Elizabeth Khelik, "Margie" passed peacefully on May 9, 2020 in Denver Colorado. Her final days were spent surrounded by the love of family.
Margie was born on May 2, 1944 in Denver Colorado to Sigifredo and Eileen Rivera. Margie was raised with her three sisters Kathy, Sharon, and Jenny, by her Aunt Elicia "Alice" Rivera in the southern Colorado town of Capulin or 'the valley' as residents knew it. Margie always had great stories and fond memories of growing up in the valley. She graduated from Capulin High School in 1962. She went on to earn an associate degree in cosmetology. She married Sami Khelik in 1965 and settled in Aurora Colorado.
Margie lived a full life as a wonderful and dedicated mother, homemaker and worker in the retail sector. She was also an active member of St Pius X church. Margie treasured her children and embraced every moment with them, instilling in her sons, strong values that have served them well. After retiring, she dedicated her time to her grandchildren. She insisted on being called "granny" because she felt that was younger than "grandma" Margie was always there to dress the girls for school and do their hair. On Saturdays, she would take the grandchildren to their basketball games.
Margie loved the holidays and family get-togethers. She baked cookies at Christmas with a kitchen full of grandchildren. She cherished visits from family and friends. Margie never knew a stranger and could talk with anyone. She had the patience to teach crocheting and needlepoint to her grandchildren and had endless amounts of love and caring to give. She always knew what to say. Margie had a sense of humor that she passed on to all her children and a smile to warm your soul. She was a strong independent woman who was always honest. She had the ability to command the energy of the room.
Margie is survived by her sons Methaeb, Anass and Hammed of Aurora Colorado; her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her sisters Kathy Romero, Sharon Valdez and Jenny Marquez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sigifredo and Eileen, and her Aunt Alice.
A Mass and funeral will be scheduled for a later time with a celebration of life to follow. All are welcome.
