Maria Virginia Sandoval

Maria Virginia Sandoval, 80 of Englewood, CO, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on September 9, 2020. She is preceded in death by her loving Father and Mother Toribio and Eumelia Maestas, sister Martha M. Madrid, and brother Peter Maestas. She is survived by loving husband Joseph Eugene Sandoval, sisters Anna (Dan) Martinez, Estella Spurlock, children Gene Raymond (Roxanne) Sandoval, Arlene Denise (Eddie) Moralez, Roger David (Debbie) Sandoval, and Sheila Joan Sandoval; 6 Grandchildren, 6 great- grandchildren; numerous family members and friends.

Virginia was born in El Moro, CO on November 14, 1939. Virginia graduated from Hoehne High School in 1958. She married her life long best friend Joseph Eugene in 1959 in Trinidad, CO. They relocated to Denver, CO where they resided since 1965. Virginia was a homemaker, house wife, cleaned houses and retired at Bingo King where she assembled Bingo boxes. Virginia was passionate about her Catholic faith, her family and horseshoe pitching with her husband. Virginia was Colorado's State Champion Double Ringer of the National Horseshoe Pitching Association for 8 years in a row 1988 to 1999. She loved to bowl, enjoyed being outdoors fishing and camping, she loved her church activities and making Jelly from her Plum Tree. Granny and Popo loved to dance and they danced very well. She dedicated a lot of her time helping people, donating, made burritos for the homeless, crocheting mittens and hats to preschoolers with the Yarners Club. She was a parishioner of Holy Name Catholic Church for 55 years, where she sang in the choir and was a Eucharistic Minister, Church Yarners Club, and a member of the Moose Lodge. She also loved to donate to Black Hawk every Tuesday LOL( jokingly)

Granny gave us life, love and taught us to always do right. She loved passionately, so sweet and gentle. Truly a beautiful person inside and out. Granny was our safe place and we miss her deeply. A piece of our hearts went with her to Heaven. We are so blessed to have had her as our grandma. The strongest, sweetest lady who impacted and touched the lives of many. Many memories have been created that we now get to hold very close to our hearts. Thank you for everything granny, for your love and support, for caring for us as babies and changing all the dirty diapers that Popo would never attempt to change lol even if that meant Popo taking us where you were pitching shoes just for you to change us, for caring for us when we were sick, for reading us bedtime stories, for comforting us when we were afraid, for all the phone calls at any hour of the day because we missed you, for wrapping your arms around us, for humming and whistling beautifully all the time because when I think of you I can still hear it. Thank you for teaching us our prayers, for putting us in Catechism, for being our sponsor and making us get up to go to church when we didn't want to go, for pinching us because we wouldn't sit still in church telling us to knock it off, for teaching us life skills and manners. Thank you for all the arts and crafts we got to make with you as children with you, for your patience and nurturing. Granny loved the Price is Right, Days of our lives, The young and the restless, Everybody Loves Raymond, Two & a Half Men and Disney movies, we got to watch many good TV shows and movies with Granny and Popo. Thank you for the discipline and teaching us to Obey our parents, for getting mad at us at night for continuously giggling, for smacking us with your sandal or TV guide at the time it may or may not have been funny but she could never stay mad at us. Granny was known for her pinching and she sure did pinch hard. Thank you for being someone to look up to because I can only hope to be more than half of the woman you are. Thank you for being YOU granny because without you life wouldn't be as sweet and we wouldn't have these memories to hold close to our hearts. Thank you for letting us spend a lot of our Childhood with you and Popo some of the greatest memories were created. We love you more than you can ever imagine, our hearts are heavy and feel empty but we know you are okay and will be watching over us always. Heaven just got way more beautiful when God called you home. Our beautiful Angel until we meet again Rest in Paradise!
