Marie Michelle (Miraldi) Hollmann, 93, passed into eternity on Thursday afternoon, August 11, 2022, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. A lifelong and faithful Roman Catholic, Marie passed peacefully with a crucifix in her hand and surrounded by her family.
Marie was born in New York City on December 27, 1928, to Leonard and Margaret Miraldi. The daughter of a craftsman and a dressmaker, Marie grew up in a simple but loving home where family values and hard work were demonstrated. She married F. C. Robert ("Bob") Hollmann on August 27, 1950, at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. While Bob attended college and law school, Marie worked as a secretary to help pay the bills until their first child was born in 1953. Family always came first, so Marie gave up her career to raise William, James, and Maryellen, only returning to secretarial work years later for the delegates when the Maryland State Legislature was in session in Annapolis.
Through the years, the family lived in numerous cities and states while Bob's career with General Electric progressed. Each location brought new adventures, from camping to baking and international travel. Marie and Bob became avid sailors, sailing rivers, lakes, and even the ocean. Yet, perhaps even more than sailing, they enjoyed dancing. Marie and Bob could always be found dancing whenever there was music playing. They danced at parties, at weddings, at dinners, and in the living room at family gatherings, even into their 90s.
Marie was the heart of the family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her eyes always lit up when the little ones came into the room. Her love of God and country was obvious. But her love of life and family was the most obvious of all, and the world will miss it.
Marie was blessed with 69 years of marriage to Bob before his passing in 2019. Their legacy lives on with their three children: William Hollmann and wife Sarah of Cheyenne, Wyoming; James Hollmann and wife Chaleeporn of New Mexico; and Maryellen (Hollis) Russell and husband Chris of Jacksonville, Florida. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband Bob, Marie was preceded in death by her brother Leonard R. Miraldi, son-in-law Howell Hollis, and grandson Pitak Hollmann.
