Marilyn June Johnson
September 7, 1927 — January 5, 2018
Marilyn June Johnson of Denver, CO, passed away on Friday, January 5th. She had just turned 90 years young on September 7th. Born to Godfred and Nellie Brunner in Carrollton, Ohio, she had two younger sisters; Elizabeth (Betty) May Arnold and Doris Cutshall who both lived in Wyoming; Doris in Torrington and Betty in Hawk Springs.
Marilyn soon found herself in Kiowa, CO by way of Kalamazoo, Michigan, then to Englewood and Denver. She met and subsequently married a tall Texan named R.V. Johnson on November 20, 1947. They raised four sons; Ron, Gary, Bruce, and Jeff, the three oldest still living in the Denver area, the youngest, Jeff, passed away in 1984.
Marilyn was blessed with two Grandchildren, Jason Daniel and Breanne Rose by Bruce and daughter-in-law Michelle, who was thought of and loved like her own daughter.
Two of the greatest joys in her life were her great-grandchildren Jade, now 15 and Isaac, now 12 years old. Born to granddaughter Breanne, they were shining lights in her life. She was also endeared to her son Garys' partner of 23 years, Bill.
Among her and R.V.s' many, many friends were Leon and Charlotte Latham, the greatest of friends for 70+ years. They shared many births and deaths, camping trips, family dinners together, and late night card games. A friendship like this is rare indeed. Marilyn also had many friends through the United Methodist Church which she attended until it was too difficult to go, but for the last few years friendships remained. Lastly, the smallest big joy for her was son Rons' "little girl", his dog Penny. Penny was a constant companion whom she loved and who loved her.
To close a remarkable life there are not enough words to express how much she was loved by all who knew Marilyn. As Frank Balm wrote in The Wizard of OZ, "A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others." Anyone who did know her knew of her passion for life and family and love of butterflys. Butterflys, she once said, represent "freedom". As we all say goodbye to Marilyn, she too is now free, and may she rest well.
