Marilyn (Shoemaker) Longfellow passed away peacefully on November 20, 2023, at the age of 77, due to complications of ALS, at her residence in Denver, CO.
She was the daughter of Eugene and Eda (Eigsti) Shoemaker, and was born in Freeport, IL. She was married to Al Longfellow for 40 years. He passed away in 2019.
She leaves behind her beloved sons Josh and Alec, and stepson Aaron Rapier and step-grandchildren Peyton, Aidan, Gavin, and Karley Rapier. She is also survived by eight brothers and sisters, Alice (Sandy), Loren (Vesta), Ivan (Sherrie), Merle (Karen), Ron (Pat), Jerry, Leola, and Geneva (Chuck), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn worked for 45 years as a patient account representative for several health systems and loved her work and co-workers. All who knew her will remember her as a kind, gentle, and compassionate advocate for those in need. She was a life-long spiritual seeker and an avid reader, supporting every library within her reach. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. A tree-of-life planting and ceremony will be held in Illinois on the family farm at a later date.
Marilyn was grateful for the care she received from family and caregivers. The family wishes to thank Namaste Hospice for their services.
Per her wishes, Marilyn made a tissue donation to the ALS research program at UCLA. In memory of her, memorials may be given to ALS research
