Mark Edwin Dater

January 4, 1953 — June 19, 2020

Mark Edwin Dater passed away peacefully in his sleep from COPD complications on June 19, 2020. He was born on January 4, 1953 in Wichita, Kansas to Joseph Thomas Dater and Bessie Marie Wenzel (Dater) who preceded him in death as well as his loving step-mother Mary Francis Keller Dater. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Rebecca Ortega Dater, Aurora, Colorado. He also leaves sons Randall Joseph Dater (wife Leanne) from Byers, Colorado, Thomas Cruz Dater (wife Eryn) and daughter Luanne Marie Dater (fiancé Ian Lisman) all of Aurora, CO. Surviving him are 5 grandchildren, Michaela Nicole 17, Alan Joseph 10, Stella Adeline 6, Amelia Rayne 6 and Avalyn Grace 3. Surviving him also are brothers Paul Dater, David Dater and sister Joyce Mosley (Earl Mosley). He also leaves behind 3 sisters in law, 2 brothers in law, numerous aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones.

Mark loved his family and they made many wonderful memories together. Sadly, Mark lost his father Joseph in February 1980 but not before he let his father know he was going to have a grandchild. Mark was the only child of his parents to have children who will carry on the Dater name.

Mark attended Hinkley High School in Aurora, Colorado but did not graduate. Instead he earned his GED and several associates degrees throughout the year. He began his current career in radio-active waste and disposal in 1984. He worked hard by going to school and taking classes in radiation safety. He continued working in this field until his death on June 19, 2020. He worked his final years at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in the Radioactive Materials Division. He was the proudest when he received his badge that made him the "newest Sheriff in Town". He loved his job and the people he worked with. They said he had them laughing at their last meeting by sharing pictures of Beckie wielding hair clippers right before attacking his 8 inch long beard and then showing him clean shaven. He always had the silliest sense of humor.

Marks favorite pastime was playing guitar. He possessed many beautiful guitars which will be handed down to his children and grand-children. When younger and in good health he loved bowling, swimming and reading and playing with his grand-children.

COVID 19 brought Mark home to work and it was a time he and Beckie were able to spend time together more closely as they, like everyone else, stayed safe at home. Beckie was glad that he was home with her and that they could make one another feel safe.

He went very peacefully and looked like he was sleeping as Jesus came to take his hand. Thankfully Mark had given his life to Jesus early in life and was actually water baptized along with his oldest son in 1988. He was also able to baptize his youngest children a few years later. He is now lying in the arms of his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

He loved his family especially his grandchildren and worked hard for them to have a good life. We will miss him dearly and were so blessed to have him in our lives. God will take care of us now Mark. Rest with your loved ones until we all meet again in heaven and we will all play our instruments and raise our voices in worship to Jesus.
