"There will be a Celebration of Life on May 27, 2021. Details will be available as the date approaches."
Mark was born May 27, 1968, in Denver, Colorado. He grew up in Aurora, Colorado, and attended
Vaughn Elementary, North Middle School and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1986. Mark
attended Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska.
Mark enjoyed all types of sports and he was an avid Raiders fan. If you were going to talk sports with
Mark, you better bring your "A" game. He could state the most random statistics that would make
anyone say "how do you know that?" From March Madness to the NBA and the NFL playoffs, you could
find him at Choppers Sports Grill in Cherry Creek hanging with his "Choppers crew". He met and built
lifelong friendships with several people there and they have become part of our family. He also coached
little league football for The Cardinals winning championships in 2006 and 2008. He coached and
mentored many young men ages 9-12 years old
.
Although Mark didn't have any children of his own, he had been a father figure to Marcus Miller for 14
years. Mark was as proud as any father would be when Marcus received an academic scholarship as well as a football scholarship to Harvard University.
Mark was definitely a "no-nonsense" kind of guy. As a friend just recently described him "He would
give it to you straight up, no chaser!" If you didn't want a true raw answer, he was NOT the one to ask.
But if you were in his "circle" he would go to the end of the earth for you. His family and friends were
an important part of his everyday life.
Mark managed Nicholson Cleaners for over 20 years, worked in downtown Denver at APM for 7 years,
helped his best friend/brother from another mother Marion "Chubby" Dinwiddie with Dinwiddie
Construction for a short time and most recently was working at ABM Aviation at Denver International
Airport.
August 26, 2018, an obstructed bowel sent Mark into Cardiac arrest, multiple organ failure, and septic
shock. Thankfully Mark's good friend and Cardiologist Dr. Mori Krantz was an advocate and "pushed"
the doctors to perform surgery that night versus "monitoring" him. The doctors gave him a 2% survival
rate, but after 9 ½ weeks in the ICU and 2 weeks in a long-term care facility, he was able to come home.
His road to recovery was definitely tough but Mark had started to accept his new normal and was
looking forward to really working to improve his health and was hopeful to be placed on the transplant
list for a new kidney.
December 2, 2020, Mark took his last breath on this earth.
Mark is survived by his Mother Helena Nicholson; brothers Mike Nicholson (Pam); and Keith Nicholson;
and sister Robyn Nicholson. He is also survived by four nieces, four nephews, one great-niece and one
great-nephew, two cousins that were more like a brother and sister than cousins Dwight Nicholson
(Mary) and Dina Schuttler (Bill), two uncles as well as a host of cousins and other relatives along with
countless long-time friends.
Mark is preceded in death by his father Michael Nicholson and his grandparents.
He will be greatly missed!
