Mary Alta VanDeventer, 88, of Parker Colorado passed away in her home on June 24, 2018. Mary was born in New Underwood South Dakota, the daughter of Alvin and Margaret (Judson) Moreland. Mary was a graduate of Sturgis High School, residing with a Church family where she made a lifelong friendship with Gladys Butler during her 4 years of High School.
She was married to Virgil VanDeventer on May 11, 1951 residing with him in Jacksonville Florida, Memphis Tennessee, Alameda, Long Beach, and San Diego California for the next 4 years while he was serving in the Navy.
After Virgil's Navy career, they returned to Rapid City South Dakota where Mary worked at the Rapid City National Bank while Virgil Attended college at the South Dakota School of Mines. Upon completion of his education, they moved to Salt Lake City Utah where they resided for approximately 7 years. In 1959 their first daughter Julie Ann was adopted. A move to the Denver area was made in 1967 where they resided in Westminster for 2 years, moving to Parker in 1969 where she lived until her death.
A second daughter Jo Lyn was adopted in 1969 after moving to their new Parker home. These two daughters grew the family to 6 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband Virgil; daughters Julie Ann and Jo Lyn; grandchildren Becky Garcia, Christie Smith, Brian Olson, Julie Wade, Anthony and Neena Epping; 19 Great-Grandchildren; 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents Alvin and Margaret Moreland, Brother Lorren Moreland, Sisters Leona Shoun and Darlene Pummel.
Mary served her Church, both local and regional, in various capacities such as Sunday School Teacher, Clerk and Treasurer, Women's Missionary Band leader. Mary loved to travel visiting most of the USA, Great Britain, France, the Bahamas, Canada and Mexico mostly with her husband. Mary loved to knit, tat, sew, paint and cook, mainly for the pleasure of others. She also enjoyed times of camping, hunting and fishing with family. Having her children around her was a most pleasant thing for her. She survived several serious illnesses, and surgeries beginning in 1974 but was miraculously delivered from most of them and is at peace with our Lord, free from all pain and suffering.
