Mary Armijo

Mary Armijo, a long time Denver resident, passed away January 17, 2008 in company of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Art Armijo Sr., her beloved husband of 51 years, beloved parents, departed brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Art Jr., Louis, Joyce Laffea, Gilbert (Lynda), Eugene, Lorraine Allison (Steve); Grandchildren Erick Maes (Tracy), Lorrie Duran (Lucio), Greggory and Zachary Armijo; Great Grandchildren Ciera Maes, Jadon Maes and Jordan Pacheco, sisters Eileen Chavez, Mary Ann Craig, Francis Roque, brother Richard Torres. Godsons: Pierre Chavez, John Leal, Patrick Blanton and Maurice Gonzales.
Mary, a dedicated and loving wife and mother also unselfishly donated much of her life to many charities and organizations. She was a member of The Denver Jane Jefferson Democratic Club, a District Executive and precinct person for the Colorado Democratic Committee district 2B for over 45 years and a Precinct Captain for the Denver Election Commission. In 1985 she helped co-found the Southwest Improvement Council while on St Anthony Social Concerns Committee. She was a member since it was chartered, a board member from 1990 to 2002 when due to health she was given honorary Board Member Emeritus status. Mary also strived to help pioneer the active participation of women and minorities in Denver and Colorado politics. A devoted Catholic she was an officer and member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, her parish since 1955. She was a loving and friendly person with a smile for all, Mary knew no animosity with a prayer and blessing for everyone, friend or stranger.
Pallbearers: Erick Maes, Greggory Armijo, Zachary Armijo, Lucio Duran, Steve Allison, and Johnny Armijo. Honorary pallbearers: Pierre Chavez, John Leal, Patrick Blanton, Maurice Gonzales, and dear friend Larry Ball.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memoriam for her to the Altar and Rosary Society or St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church c/o St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 3801 W. Ohio Ave., Denver, CO 80219. Visitation Thursday one hour prior to Rosary.
Recitation of the Rosary, Thursday, 7:00PM at the Newcomer Family Funeral Home-West Metro Chapel. Funeral Mass, Friday 10:00 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Interment, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
