Mary Alice Cardenas, a cherished soul whose heart embraced life’s yet profound pleasures, departed this world on August 7, 2024, leaving behind a legacy woven with love, resilience, and warmth. Born on July 14, 1944, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Rose Elvira Lettig and Joe Arsenio Lucero, Mary Alice was the treasured member of a large family, graced with the companionship of 13 siblings. She is survived by one brother and five sisters, who will forever hold dear the memories of their spirited sister.
In her youth, Mary Alice found joy and purpose in family and commitment. She married Jose “Lou” Martinez at a tender age, and from this union emerged six beautiful children, three of whom survive her. Each child, along with her eight adoring grandchildren, stands as a testament to her nurturing spirit and steadfast devotion to family.
In 1991, Mary Alice married the love of her life, Thomas Abraham Cardenas, a union marked by deep affection and partnership. Together, they shared countless moments until Thomas’s passing in 2006, leaving an indelible mark on her heart. Throughout her life, Mary Alice demonstrated a boundless capacity for love and care, always striving to instill joy in the lives of those around her.
Mary Alice cherished the mountains of Colorado, finding serenity and joy while gambling, fishing, and creating lasting memories with her family amidst the breathtaking landscapes. Her love for her family rivaled only by her fondness for the music of Johnny Cash, which often served as the soundtrack to her most cherished moments.
As we gather to honor her memory, we invite friends and family to join us for a memorial service at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Metro in Denver on August 26, 2024. The service will commence at 2:00 PM, preceded by a gathering to share stories and celebrate her life beginning at 1:00 PM. Mary Alice Cardenas leaves behind a rich legacy of love, kindness, and a spirit that will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
